ASAH

(Association of Students of African Heritage)

We are the Association of Students’ of African Heritage, or you might know us in short as ASAH.

Founded during the autumn of 2006 by Erasmus University students: Justine Bell, Aurelia N. S. Dagadu, Ali Nasir and Yves van Oel, they set out on a mission to create an association that could be a community in which students of African Ancestry got a voice and the necessary representation, both at the University and within The Netherlands. In 2007, the association was officially registered at the Dutch Chamber of Commerce in Rotterdam. Now, with each and every passing day, the ASAH community is getting stronger and continuously carries out its primary values, aspirations and dreams: Diversity, access, engagement and care.

Built on the pillars of organising educational, career, cultural and social activities to enrich and complement the journey of African students’, ASAH embraces diversity and a multi-ethnic membership — We confidently stand by the fact, that we have created a family, that is in present time, being uplifted and supported by the 19th board of ASAH.

Furthermore, ASAH is the first of its kind; a successful Afro-oriented student association within The Netherlands. Today, we can proudly say that ASAH has grown into a renowned association with over 500 members. The nature and extent of ASAH’s work, has simultaneously inspired the establishment of similar student organisations across The Netherlands and fostered affiliations locally and overseas.

We welcome each and every one of you.

As human beings, we each have our own voices, but together we create a mosaic of innovation, impact and insight encapsulating the diversity of Africa.

This is why we are the “Voices of Africa”.
