VGSR
Since 1950, the Vereniging van Gereformeerde Studenten in Rotterdam (VGSR) has been a home for Christian students who want to make the most of their student years. Our association is built on two pillars: Amicitia (Friendship) and Studiezin (Academic Drive). Here, friendships are formed that last a lifetime, we intellectually challenge each other, and faith plays an obvious and important role in our community life.
Amicitia
As a small-scale association, everyone knows each other personally, and the sense of involvement is strong. Every Thursday evening, we gather at our clubhouse in the Oude Haven, where we experience the most student-like evenings, from fun activities and games to deep conversations over a beer. Many members live in our student houses, the ‘kasten’ (cabinets), where community life continues. Outside the clubhouse, we also hang out together: we enjoy a drink at our regular pub, De Oude Sluis, go on weekend trips (next year, we’ll even be taking a lustrum trip abroad to celebrate our 75th anniversary!), and organize unforgettable events such as a gala or Christmas dinner.
Studiezin
At VGSR, you also have the opportunity to develop intellectually. We organize lectures, debates, and discussion evenings, so we look beyond our study books. Studying together and sharing experiences makes it easier to stay focused and motivated.
Our faith plays a central role in everything we do. We go to church together, hold bi-weekly Bible studies with a shared meal, and thank God for everything we undertake. During praise evenings, we sing and pray together, and there is always space to deepen and share your faith with fellow students.
Whether you come for the friendship, the intellectual challenge, or the spiritual growth—at VGSR, you’ll find it all. Want to know more? Contact Wout (06-11329942).
